2022 Medical Brigade Newsletter #4

MAY NEWSLETTER

This is the fourth in a series of newsletters intended to assist with your participation in Honduras Good Works Medical Mission Trip. Please read the previous newsletters to make sure you are on the right track. Previous newsletters can be found to the right or HERE. Also, be on the lookout for upcoming newsletters.

Passports

By this point you should have your passport ready. If you haven’t already, please download your passport; go to Upload Documents. This is due by May 15.

Medical Personnel

If you have not already done so, we need a copy of your diploma and medical license to practice uploaded ASAP. We need to submit these to the Honduran authorities well before our trip. Go to Upload Documents to complete this vital task!

Payments

By now you have paid your non-refundable $50 deposit to hold your seat and you should have paid another $1000 by April 30th. (most have not so you are not alone, but please get this done!) If you have not already paid your full mission trip amount, the final payment is due May 31. (Total for the Brigade is $2100, includes all previous payments). You can make a payment with this link: betterunite.com/hondurasgoodworks-2022brigade. Your brigade payment is a “donate to the brigade” page, but on the payment page that follows, insert your name for who the credit should go to. Of course, anyone can also make a donation in your name, towards your trip.

Drivers

Those of you who have agreed to drive while in Honduras (you must know how to drive a standard transmission 4 wheel drive pick-up truck) must have downloaded a copy of your driver’s license by now using our Upload Documents page. If you are still willing to drive, please download a copy your driver’s license immediately. (We may not need everyone who offers to drive.)If you are having trouble downloading or have changed your mind about driving, please contact Honduras Good Works at brigade.info@hondurasgoodworks.org.

Team T-shirts

You should vote with your dollars for the color you want this year’s team T-shirt to be. Choices are red, blue or green. You can place your votes here: T-shirt vote. T-shirts will be handed out at our final packing party or at the airport.

Hotel Rooms in Houston

A block of 15 rooms has been reserved for July 09,2022 at the Red Roof Inn, 15675 John F Kennedy Boulevard, Houston, TX at $78 plus tax. There are 2 double beds in each room. To book one of the reserved rooms, call Red Roof Inn at 937-505-5996. The blocked rooms are under Becky or Rebecca Sparks. Also, contact Becky at Becky@christchurchtemple.org to let her know if you have reserved a room and how many will be in the room. The blocked rooms with the guaranteed price of $78 each will be released by May 30. (Price for 1 or 2 persons is at a reduced rate, but not less than $65)If you reserve a room, you are responsible for the cost of the room. You can leave your car at the Red Roof for $48.00 for July 10-17. Should you leave your car there, you are also responsible for the cost of parking. (Longer time at Red Roof Inn will be charged at $6 per day plus tax.)The van at the Red Roof Inn leaves every 30 minutes for the airport and holds about 12 passengers. Since there will be other guests who will departing for international destinations at the same time we do, it may be necessary for some people to leave earlier than others in order for all to be at the airport by 6:30 a.m.For those arriving to IAH Saturday, July 9, please note that the Red Roof Inn shuttle does not run continuously. There is a gap in service between 11am and 2 pm, and after 8 pm. They will call for another shuttle - but there might be an extra expenditure ($10). This holds true for those returning to IAH ...if you decide to leave your vehicle at the Red Roof).

Next Month

We will review what to pack, but please plan on using a carry-on only, for your personal items if at all possible. We need as many people as possible to carry 2 team bags as your personal 2 bag allotment. These will be given to you at our group check in. We really don’t want to leave any team bags behind, but there is a 2 bag limit per person, going into Honduras. To answer questions or for technical help, please contact us through brigade.info@hondurasgoodworks.org or at 830-275-0106.
